The Humane Society of Midland County is most notably known for finding permanent, loving homes for abused, unwanted, and abandoned animals. Furry friends awaiting a new home and new beginning are also spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before adoption. In some cases, rescued animals require emergency medical treatments. Costs for these medical programs surpassed $200,000 in 2021. Increased medical supply costs and staffing shortages put funding for these programs at risk.
A grant of $14,800 made by The Midland Area Big Give will go toward medical services at The Humane Society of Midland County to ensure continued support for these services. The Midland Area Big Give is a giving circle representing more than 100 men from the greater Midland area who are dedicated to helping local nonprofit agencies. Over $300,000 has been donated to Midland County nonprofits through The Midland Area Big Give.
The Humane Society of Midland County is the only animal shelter in Midland County, placing 23,978 animals in their forever home since 2011. It receives no dedicated governmental funding or funding from a national animal rescue or human organization.
