A unique scholarship is available for Midland County students

On Thursday, November 17, the Midland Area Community Foundation and Hiram College will host an informational reception for prospective students, parents, educators, and youth advocates. The reception will be from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at the Midland Area Community Foundation office, 76 Ashman Circle in Midland. There is no charge.

Of particular interest, the Esther S. Gerstacker Hiram College Scholarship is available only to students from Midland County attending Hiram College, Esther’s alma mater. The Community Foundation administers the scholarship. Students may apply annually and receive the scholarship for four years. The scholarship can cover up to the total cost of education, net of the standardized Expected Family Contribution determined through FAFSA. Two Midland students, Chloe Welch and Aidan Moneypenny, are currently enrolled at Hiram College. Accrued scholarship funds are sufficient to support additional students for 2023 and 2024.

“This is an exceptional scholarship opportunity to attend a fine small college,” stated John Zimmerman, chair of the Gerstacker Scholarship selection committee. “We would like to establish a Midland County pipeline and send one or more new students yearly.”

Hiram College offers a unique learning environment, focusing on close student-faculty interactions and experiential learning opportunities. Hiram College is nestled in the quiet town of Hiram, Ohio, about a 5-hour drive from Midland. Campus life at this eclectic liberal arts college provides students with a home away from home. Hiram College offers a wide range of sports, clubs, and organizations, and all students are encouraged to be involved in campus activities and functions.

Hiram College Admissions counselors will be available on November 17 to discuss educational opportunities at Hiram. Applications for all Midland Area Community Foundation scholarships, including the Esther S. Gerstacker Hiram College Scholarship, open on November 1 and close on January 15, 2023.
